Description

Cannnigton Manor Provincial Historic Park tells the story of experiments in Canadian settlement. Step back in time as costumed park interpreters guide you through several recreated buildings to and bring history to life with hands-on activities and immersive stories of days gone by.

In the late nineteenth century, Canada was ready to "settle" the west. Cannington Manor was founded by Edward Michell Pierce, who envisioned a thriving society centred on the aristocratic English lifestyle on the Canadian plains. The community grew in its success for a number of years, offering fox hunts, a dramatic society, rugby team, horse track and more! By 1900 the experiment game to an end and the community became largely agricultural. Cannington Manor Provincial Historic Park invites you to step back in time and experience what life was like in this unique community.

During its heyday, the villagers of Cannington Manor took part in fox hunts, dramatics societies, poetry clubs, tennis, cricket and croquet. After struggling for several years due to isolation and low grain prices, the village was abandoned in 1900.

Cannington Manor Provincial Historic Park operates seasonally, Thursday-Monday (closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays) from the May Long Weekend to the end of August. School programming is available in May and June. Interpretive signs tell the story of this unique village, and visitors are welcome to tour the grounds year-round. A picnic area and washrooms are available, and most buildings are wheelchair accessible.
